We are searching for a home for two billion people. As the global population approaches 10.2 billion, horizontal urban growth is becoming unsustainable. The High-Performance City and its linear system of Strings combine the social cohesion of the village with the density and economic intensity of the city—creating vibrant, compact environments with a significantly reduced ecological footprint.
The research builds on DMAA’s role as Lead Designer for THE LINE Detailed Masterplan Phase 1, whose 100% design submission was approved in 2025. It reflects four years of interdisciplinary work on one of the world’s most ambitious urban projects and extends these insights into a transferable model for future high-density cities.
